24th October marks United Nations (UN) Day. The United Nations was formed 78 years ago in 1945 to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations and achieve international cooperation.
Every year on United Nations Day, people from all over the world come together with different activities including organised parades to celebrate the idea of diversity, equality, peace and unity.
While some countries mark the day with organised events, others simply share a meal with friends and families to celebrate diversity and the love for other cultures and religions.
The United Nations main headquarters is in the Manhattan borough of New York, but there are three additional regional headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland), Vienna (Austria) and Nairobi, (Kenya).
If you’re curious about what the UN is doing to maintain world peace, then you can book a guided tour at both the main and regional. Not only that, but you can also explore a range of different tours from the Garden and Architecture tour to the Black History and Focus on Women Tour. You can find out more on these tours here.
